The two door A40 Dorset was dropped in 1949 after only 15,939 were made, leaving the four door Devon, which was the more successful of the two, as the main A40 model. The A40 Devon of 1949 was the first post war saloon from Austin, a car that had been previewed at the Paris Motor Show in 1947 and had disappointed the press with its conservative looks. The Dorset ended that year. The Dorset was a short lived body.
