The Uru, also known in English as the fat boat, is a type of dhow traditionally built in Beypore on the Malabar coast of Kerala, India. Constructed by master shipwrights known as khalasis using techniques passed down through generations rather than formal blueprints, Uru vessels were historically built for Arab traders for use in Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean trade, and Beypore's yards continue to build them today, largely for export.
