Thermopylae was an extreme composite clipper ship built in 1868 by Walter Hood and Company of Aberdeen to a design by Bernard Waymouth for the China tea trade. On her maiden voyage she sailed from Britain to Melbourne in 63 days, a speed under sail that has never been beaten, and for years afterward she was regarded as one of the fastest clipper ships ever built.
