The Suzuki Wagon R Smile is a retro styled kei car with sliding doors on both sides, announced on 27 August 2021 as a separate series sold alongside the regular Wagon R. Suzuki built it because about 40 percent of Wagon R users asked in surveys for a version with sliding doors. The name Smile was trademarked by Honda in 1995, and Honda agreed to its use only together with the Wagon R name, so Smile cannot become a model name on its own. It has the model code MX instead of the usual MH, and a mild hybrid R06D engine. To cut cost it borrows the front and sliding doors of the second generation Spacia and the tailgate of the sixth generation Wagon R. A facelift in December 2024 added an electric parking brake and brake hold.
