The Suzuki Kei is a kei car that Suzuki produced between 1998 and 2009, launched in October 1998 in response to the revision of the kei car dimensions. It was first sold only as a three-door hatchback, a five-door version was added in March 1999, and the three-door model was dropped from 2000. It had facelifts in October 2000, 2001 and April 2006, and its variants included the rugged Kei Special of May 1999, the Kei Sports of October 2000 and the Kei Works of November 2002, which used a tuned K6A engine making 64 PS and had Recaro seats. Mazda sold a rebadged Kei as the Laputa from May 1999 to 2006, the first-generation Ignis shared many parts with it, and production ended in 2009, with the Hustler launched in December 2013 as its direct successor.
