Suzuki Ignis

Automobiles

The Suzuki Ignis was an automobile nameplate that Suzuki first used in 2000 for a subcompact car replacing the Suzuki Cultus, and later, from 2016 to 2026, for a crossover-styled city car. The Cultus had been sold under many names around the world, notably as the Swift, and the Ignis replaced the Cultus-based Swift in Europe and Australasia while Japanese models were badged Swift, which is how the Swift name debuted in Japan. The first series, codenamed HT51S and HT81S, was built as a three- and five-door hatchback with Suzuki's new M family of inline-four petrol engines in 1.3 and 1.5 litres. From 2001 it also formed the basis of the Chevrolet Cruze, developed with General Motors, and Subaru sold a version in Europe as the G3X Justy. Ignis is Latin for fire.
