Suzuki GS1100

Motorcycles and Powered Two- and Three-Wheelers

The Suzuki GS1100 is a motorcycle of the Suzuki GS series that was introduced in 1980 as a direct descendant of the GS750, with the engine size raised from 1000 to 1100 cc. It received accolades when it appeared. The 1980 model covered the quarter mile in 11.39 seconds at 118.42 mph and reached 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. It has four valves per cylinder, double overhead cams, electronic ignition, a five speed transmission, a box section aluminium swingarm, anti dive forks from 1982 and triple disc brakes. Cycle World named it Superbike of the Year for three consecutive years from 1981 to 1983. Cycle Guide called the GS1000 a landmark in March 1978 for successfully re engineering an existing Japanese motorcycle with handling and light weight as the priorities, and in 1999 Rider magazine ranked the GS1100E fifth among the most significant bikes of the previous 35 years.
