The Suzuki Fronte is an automobile introduced in March 1962 as the sedan version of the Suzulight Van, and the nameplate stayed in use for Suzuki's kei car sedans and some commercial derivatives until it was replaced by the Alto in September 1988. The name first alluded to the front-wheel drive of the original car, but during the years the Fronte was rear-engined and rear-wheel drive Suzuki said it meant its aim of being at the front of the kei class. The Suzulight Fronte, built at the Takatsuka Assembly in Hamamatsu, had a transverse two-cylinder, two-stroke 360 cc engine driving the front wheels, independent suspension on all four wheels with transverse double leaf springs and 25 PS at 6,000 rpm, and 2,565 were built in the first year. The design was a fairly straightforward copy of the older Lloyd LP400.
