The Suzuki DR650 is a 644 cc single-cylinder dual-sport motorcycle that Suzuki has made since 1990 as the replacement for the 590 cc DR600. The first models were the Djebel or Dakar and the RS, both kick start, the first electric-start model, the DR650RSE, came in 1991, and in 1992 the Djebel or Dakar became the DR650R with an improved exhaust and a smaller fuel tank. In 1996 the DR650SE replaced the earlier models with a radically redesigned engine that gave up some power for smoother delivery, with electric start only and an effective balancer shaft that keeps the single smooth. It uses a 40 mm Mikuni carburettor, which is why it has been unavailable in Europe since 2001 under emission rules. It was still in production in 2023 and the best-selling bike over 500 cc in New Zealand.
