The Suzuki Alto Lapin is a kei car with a five-door hatchback body that Suzuki has built since 2002 for the Japanese market only, based on the Alto. Lapin is French for rabbit, so the car carries rabbit-head badging on the grille and a chrome Lapin logo at the rear in place of the Suzuki S emblem. A prototype of the same name was shown at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show, and the boxy shape proved popular with young women aged 20 to 30. The first generation, the HE21S, was introduced on 22 January 2002 with the 0.66 L K6A engine, a turbocharged version followed in October 2002, and Mazda sold it as the Spiano until 2008. The car won the 2008 Japanese Good Design Award.
