A sulky is a light two wheeled cart built for a single occupant, pulled by one horse, with the driver seated directly above or just behind the axle. Sulkies were used for everyday transport but became best known as the standard vehicle of harness racing, in which a driver rides behind a trotting or pacing horse in a lightweight sulky built for speed rather than comfort, a form of racing that remains active today.
