The Sukhoi T-4 is a Soviet experimental aircraft first flown in 1972, developed as a prototype for a Mach 3 capable reconnaissance and strike aircraft built largely of titanium and steel to withstand the heat of sustained high speed flight, broadly comparable in ambition to the American XB-70 and SR-71 programs. Only a small number of prototypes were completed and flown before the program was cancelled in favor of other designs, and none reached operational service.
