SS Persic was an ocean liner of the White Star Line, built by Harland and Wolff at Belfast and launched on 7 September 1899. She was the third of the five Jubilee-class ships, with Afric, Medic, Suevic and Runic, built for the Liverpool, Cape Town and Sydney route, a voyage of about six weeks, and she entered service on 7 December 1899. A single-funnel liner, she had capacity for 320 third class passengers and seven cargo holds, most of them refrigerated for Australian meat. In 1900 she helped the crew of the burning steamer Maudra, and on 12 September 1918 she was torpedoed by a German U-boat near the Isles of Scilly while carrying 2,800 American troops. After a refit at Govan in 1926 found her engines badly worn, she was withdrawn from service and sold for scrap in June 1927.
