SS Noordam

Passenger and Ocean Liner Vessels

SS Noordam was a steam ocean liner launched in Ireland in 1901 and scrapped in the Netherlands in 1928 and 1929, owned by Holland America Line throughout her career. Harland and Wolff built her and her sister ship Rijndam at Belfast, with Noordam on slipway number 5 as yard number 338, launched on 28 September 1901 and completed on 29 March 1902. She measured 12,531 gross register tons, with berths for 286 first class, 292 second class and 1,800 third class passengers, and had twin screws each driven by a three-cylinder triple-expansion steam engine, rated together at 1,265 nominal horsepower and giving 15 knots. From 1923 to 1924 Rederi AB Sverige-Nordamerika chartered her and renamed her Kungsholm. She was the first of four Holland America Line ships to be called Noordam and the first of four Swedish liners to be called Kungsholm.
