SS Demosthenes was a British steam ocean liner and refrigerated cargo ship built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast for the Aberdeen Line, launched on 28 February 1911 and completed on 5 August. Unlike her sisters Pericles and Themistocles she had three screws: a pair of four-cylinder triple-expansion steam engines drove the outer screws and exhaust steam powered a low-pressure turbine built by John Brown and Company that drove the middle one, giving 1,358 nominal horsepower and a speed of 15 knots. Aberdeen Line advertised her as the first turbine steamer trading between England and Australia. She had berths for 100 first class and 1,200 third class passengers and sailed between London and Australia via Cape Town. She served as an Australian troop ship in the First World War and was scrapped in England in 1931.
