SS Coptic was a steamship built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast for the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company White Star Line, a sister ship to SS Arabic, launched on 10 August 1881 and delivered on 9 November 1881. She made her maiden voyage from Liverpool to New York on 16 November 1881. In late 1894 her compound engines were replaced with a Harland and Wolff triple expansion engine and new boilers, and her accommodation was modernised and her funnel lengthened. She was later owned by the Pacific Mail Steamship Company and the Japanese Oriental Steam Ship Company, was filmed by Thomas Edison in 1897 in one of his early movies, now held by the Library of Congress, and was scrapped in Osaka in 1926 after a 44-year career.
