The SPAD S.XIII is a French biplane fighter built by the Societe Pour L'Aviation et ses Derives, first flown in April 1917 with deliveries beginning that May, and it eventually equipped virtually every fighter squadron of the French air service by the war's end, with 8,472 built. American aces Eddie Rickenbacker and Frank Luke flew it in United States Army Air Service squadrons, and top French ace Rene Fonck as well as Georges Guynemer and Charles Nungesser also flew the type.
