Space Shuttle Endeavour

Spacecraft and Launch Vehicles

Space Shuttle Endeavour, designated OV-105, was the fifth and last operational Space Shuttle orbiter. The United States Congress approved its construction in 1987 to replace Challenger, and NASA built much of it from structural spares made for Discovery and Atlantis rather than refit Enterprise. Rockwell International delivered it in May 1991. It first flew on STS-49 in May 1992 and made 25 missions, the last being STS-134 in May 2011. It cost 1.7 billion dollars to build. Schools across the United States took part in a national competition that gave the orbiter its name, after the research ship HMS Endeavour.
