The Sikorsky S-97 Raider is a high-speed scout and attack compound helicopter based on the Advancing Blade Concept, with a coaxial rotor system, developed by Sikorsky Aircraft. Sikorsky proposed it for the US Army Armed Aerial Scout programme, formally launched on 20 October 2010 as a contender to replace the Bell OH-58D Kiowa Warrior. It builds on the earlier S-69 (XH-59A) of the 1970s, whose speed was offset by fuel use, vibration and pilot workload, and on the X2 technology demonstrator, which largely solved those problems. The S-97 made its maiden flight on 22 May 2015.
