Sikorsky S-70

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The Sikorsky S-70 is a medium transport and utility helicopter family manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft. It was developed for the United States Army in the 1970s, won the competition to become the UH-60 Black Hawk and spawned a large family of military versions, while civilian versions and some military ones are produced under various S-70 model designations. The first of three YUH-60A prototypes flew in October 1974 and the Black Hawk entered Army service in 1979. The family covers air assault, electronic warfare, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting in the S-70A Firehawk, and the Marine One presidential transport, and the international S-70i has a glass cockpit and an upgraded powertrain and rotor system.
