Sikorsky S-37

Pioneer and Early Aviation Aircraft

The Sikorsky S-37 was an American twin-engine aircraft built by the Sikorsky Manufacturing Corporation, and both examples of the series were completed in 1927. It was designed specifically to compete for the Orteig Prize and was the last land-based fixed-wing aircraft Sikorsky produced. A two-bay sesquiplane with parallel interplane struts and bracing wires, it was based on the S-35 and shared its very similar construction, with an all-metal fuselage and main wing made of Duralumin, and it was powered by two 500-horsepower Gnome-Rhone Jupiter radial engines.
