Siemens Charger

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The Siemens Charger is a family of passenger locomotives built by Siemens Mobility for use in North America, with variants for long-distance, inter-city and commuter service and for diesel, overhead wire, third rail and battery power. The diesel SC-44 serves state-supported inter-city and commuter routes, the SCB-40 was developed for Brightline in Florida, the SCV-42 runs for Via Rail in Canada, and Amtrak operates the ALC-42 on long-distance routes and has ordered the dual-mode ALC-42E. Diesel models use a Cummins 16-cylinder QSK95 four-stroke diesel engine that meets the Tier 4 emissions standard, with power from 3,000 to 3,300 kW depending on the model and a maximum speed in service of 125 mph. The first production locomotive, an SC-44, was unveiled on 26 March 2016 and began revenue service on 24 August 2017. The design shares much with the Vectron and the ACS-64.
