Siemens Avenio

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

The Siemens Avenio is a low-floor tram family produced by Siemens Mobility, a subsidiary of the German conglomerate Siemens, as the successor to the Combino family. The first generation was sold as the Combino Supra, Combino MkII or Combino Plus, and the Avenio brand was introduced at the UITP trade fair in Vienna in 2009. Unlike the multi-articulated Combino, the Avenio uses a simpler design with short single articulations and is made of stainless steel and CorTen steel instead of light materials, with assembly in Vienna and Kragujevac. It keeps the modular approach of standardised components. Customers include HTM in The Hague, which ordered 40 and later 70 trams, Munich, which took its first in 2014, Hovedstadens Letbane in Copenhagen and the Education City network near Doha, whose trams run on a battery and supercapacitor system instead of overhead wires.
