Siemens ACS-64

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The Siemens ACS-64, or Amtrak Cities Sprinter, is an electric locomotive designed by Siemens Mobility for the Northeast Corridor and the Keystone Corridor in the northeastern United States. The design is based on the EuroSprinter and Vectron platforms that Siemens sells in Europe and Asia, with changes to meet American crashworthiness rules, including crumple zones, anti-climbing features and a strengthened cab, which make it heavier than the locomotives it replaced. It is built at the Siemens factory in Florin, California, can draw 25 kV 60 Hz, 12.5 kV 60 Hz and 12 kV 25 Hz power, and has a maximum power of 6,400 kilowatts. Amtrak ordered 70 in October 2010 to replace its AEM-7 and HHP-8 locomotives, the first entered service in February 2014 and deliveries ended in August 2016. SEPTA runs 15 on its Regional Rail lines.
