The Ryan NYP, individually named the Spirit of St. Louis by its pilot, is a custom built single engine monoplane in which Charles Lindbergh made the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean, from New York to Paris, in May 1927. Built by Ryan Airlines to Lindbergh's specifications with extra fuel tankage in place of forward visibility, the flight made Lindbergh internationally famous and gave enormous momentum to public confidence in long distance air travel.
