Piper PiperSport

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Piper PiperSport was the name under which Piper Aircraft marketed the SportCruiser, a two-seat, single-engine, low-wing light-sport aircraft of all-aluminium construction built by Czech Sport Aircraft, in 2010 and 2011. Piper announced on 21 January 2010 that it had licensed a derivative of the design as an entry-level aircraft. Czech Sport Aircraft kept building it and Piper's own factory played no part, though Piper distributed parts and sold it through its dealer network. The changes from the SportCruiser were a stronger nose gear, a Ballistic Recovery Systems parachute and leather interior as standard, a cockpit sunshade, modified pitch controls and a custom paint scheme, and it was sold only as a completed Special Light-sport aircraft with a 100 horsepower Rotax 912S engine. The first customer received an aircraft on 13 April 2010. After 45 were sold, Piper discontinued the PiperSport in January 2011 and the aircraft returned to the SportCruiser name.
