Piper PA-42 Cheyenne

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Piper PA-42 Cheyenne is a twin-engine turboprop built by Piper as a larger development of the PA-31T Cheyenne I and II, which were themselves turboprop developments of the Navajo. The Cheyenne III was announced in September 1977, first flew in production form on May 18, 1979 and began deliveries on June 30, 1980, with a T-tail and 720 shaft horsepower PT6A-41 engines. The Cheyenne IV, later the Cheyenne 400LS and Cheyenne 400, used 1,000 horsepower Honeywell TPE331 engines and reached about 650 kilometres per hour. Forty-three were built until 1991, and Chuck Yeager set time-to-climb records in one in 1985.
