Piper PA-35 Pocono

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Piper PA-35 Pocono was an American 16 or 18 seat commuter airliner that Piper developed in the late 1960s. Design work began in 1965 for a twin-engined piston non-pressurized airliner, and the single prototype first flew on 13 May 1968. It was a low-wing monoplane planned around two Lycoming TIO-720 piston engines, later uprated to 520 horsepower, with a larger tail and a stretched fuselage after development problems. Development stopped in 1969 for lack of a suitable engine and because several small regional airlines were failing. Later turboprop and four-engine proposals were not built, and a fuselage was sent to Poland around 1978 for the abandoned M-19 programme.
