Piper PA-14 Family Cruiser

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Piper PA-14 Family Cruiser is an American-built small touring aircraft of the late 1940s. Piper had built the three-seat PA-12 Super Cruiser from early 1946 to March 1948, and in 1947 adapted the design to a four-seat layout by widening the cabin by five inches at the instrument panel and adding slotted flaps, keeping the high wing and fixed tailwheel undercarriage. The prototype first flew from the Lock Haven, Pennsylvania factory on 21 March 1947, a second aircraft was finished in February 1948 and customer deliveries began later that year. It has a Lycoming O-235 piston engine of 115 horsepower. In all 238 were completed, mostly for private owners in the United States, and 126 were still on the United States register in April 2011, 81 of them in Alaska.
