Piper Aerostar

General Aviation and Light Aircraft

The Piper Aerostar, originally the Ted Smith Aerostar, is an American light twin-engined piston aircraft designed by Ted R. Smith and first flown as a prototype in November 1966. It is a mid-wing cantilever monoplane with two wing-mounted engines, retractable tricycle landing gear and seating for six, noted for high wing loading and a fast cruise that made it the fastest twin piston general aviation aircraft of its time. Piper acquired the design in 1978 and continued production as the PA-60, with the pressurized 602P and 700P among its models, building the last Aerostar at Vero Beach, Florida in 1984.
