The Peugeot Type 3 is an early French automobile built by Peugeot in 1891, among the first cars produced by the company after it moved from bicycle and other metalwork manufacturing into automobile production, and among the earliest gasoline-powered cars built in France in any quantity. Built with a rear-mounted engine produced under a Daimler license held by Panhard et Levassor, the pioneering French firm that supplied early Daimler-derived engines to other French manufacturers at the time, it helped establish Peugeot as one of the pioneering makers of the young French automobile industry, which quickly became one of the most important centers of early car production in the world.
