A norimono is an enclosed Japanese litter carried on poles by bearers, used from the medieval period into the nineteenth century by samurai, court nobles and other high-ranking travelers. Larger and more elaborately built than the simpler kago litter used by lower-ranking passengers, it had a boxed cabin that let its occupant sit or recline during the journey.
