The New Routemaster is a hybrid diesel-electric double-decker bus that entered service in London in 2012, commissioned by Transport for London as a modern successor deliberately styled to recall the classic AEC Routemaster while adding a rear open platform for boarding and a second staircase. It became a visible symbol of London's bus network in the 2010s, though its open platform was later staffed only part time and eventually closed on most routes for cost reasons.
