MV Maid of Skelmorlie

Passenger and Ocean Liner Vessels

MV Maid of Skelmorlie was a passenger ferry operated on the Clyde by the Caledonian Steam Packet Company from 1953. She was the third of four passenger vessels ordered in 1951 to modernise the Clyde fleet and the second built by A and J Inglis at Pointhouse. She had a forward observation lounge and an aft tearoom, and in 1969 was fitted out for the winter Kyles of Bute and Tarbert mail run. Made redundant by the car ferry revolution, she was withdrawn after the 1972 season and sold to Italian owners in 1973, who converted her to a stern-loading car ferry named Ala. She served the Sorrento to Capri route for almost twenty years and was scrapped at Aliağa in 2023.
