The Mobility Vehicle-1, known as the MV-1, was a purpose-built wheelchair-accessible taxicab designed by the Vehicle Production Group of Miami, Florida and built at an AM General plant in Mishawaka, Indiana. It grew out of the Standard Taxi, a prototype developed with AM General that never entered series production, and the first MV-1 came off the line in October 2011. It was the first production vehicle in North America built from the ground up for people with disabilities, seating up to six adults including two full-size wheelchairs, with an ADA-approved ramp that stows under the floor. New York City approved it as a yellow cab in October 2011. It had a body-on-frame design with a Ford 4.6 liter V8 producing 248 horsepower, later a Ford 3.7 liter V6, and a compressed natural gas option. After the Vehicle Production Group closed in 2013, AM General bought its assets and restarted production in 2014 through its Mobility Ventures subsidiary, and production ended when SF Motors took over the Mishawaka plant in 2016.
