The Mercedes-Benz Actros is a heavy goods vehicle built by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, introduced at the 1996 Commercial Vehicle IAA show in Hannover as the replacement for the earlier SK range. Built primarily for long-distance haulage, heavy-duty distribution and construction work, the Actros is powered by inline-six diesel engines fitted with turbocharging and intercooling, and Mercedes-Benz has updated the range through several distinct generations, a second version launched in 2002, a third in 2007, and a fourth generation, marketed as the New Actros, introduced in July 2011. Across its successive generations the Actros has remained one of the best-known heavy trucks in Europe, competing directly against similarly long-running rivals such as the Volvo FH, Scania R-Series, DAF XF and MAN TGX.
