LTI TX1

Automobiles

The LTI TX1 is a London black cab, a hackney carriage introduced by London Taxis International in 1997 to replace the long-running Austin FX4. It was designed by the British product designer Kenneth Grange. Most TX1s were powered by the Nissan TD27 diesel engine, a supplier relationship that had begun with the last FX4s. Rather than adopting the van-shaped look of various experimental cabs, its body deliberately recalled several styling cues of the FX4, and it was submitted to cab drivers for their approval before launch, who accepted that it kept the spirit of the London cab. The improved interior allowed after-market additions such as Cabvision technology. It was replaced in 2002 by the TXII, which used a Ford Duratorq engine.
