The Lola Mk1 was the first sports racing car built by Lola, completed in 1958 under the leadership of Eric Broadley. Its body was drawn by the stylist Maurice Gomm and wrapped a steel or fibreglass tubular spaceframe chassis in a low, sleek aluminium skin. Power came from a 1,098 cc Coventry Climax FWA four-cylinder engine, designed by Harry Mundy and Walter Hassan, which gave about 80 hp (60 kW) through a four-speed manual gearbox. The car was very light, weighing roughly 368 to 381 kg. A Mk1 won its class at the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring with Charles Vogele and Peter Ashdown driving. At least 32 cars are known to have been built, and the real total is thought to lie between 38 and 42.
