Lancia 1ZM

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Lancia 1Z and 1ZM were two variants of an Italian armoured car built during the First World War and used in limited service in that war, the interwar years and the Second World War. The first, the Model 1916, was built by Ansaldo of Italy on a Lancia truck chassis and was the most common of the early Italian armoured cars; it carried twin machine guns in a turret and, on the first ten, a smaller top turret with another. The 1ZM, or Model 1918, dropped the top turret; 110 were ordered in 1917 and all were delivered before the end of 1918. They fought Austria-Hungary in the north, later served on policing duties in North and East Africa and Albania, with the Italian volunteer corps in the Spanish Civil War and in the East African campaign, and were used by Germany after the 1943 armistice.
