The Junkers J 1 is an experimental German monoplane built by Junkers and Co, first flown in December 1915, widely recognized as the first all metal aircraft in the world. At a time when aircraft were built from fabric covered, wire braced wooden structures, the J 1 used pioneering stressed skin construction with sheet steel panels, a design approach that influenced Junkers' later, more famous all metal aircraft.
