JNR Class EF66

The JNR Class EF66 is an electric locomotive introduced in 1966 by Japanese National Railways, designed to haul heavy freight trains on the Tokaido and Sanyo main lines linking Tokyo, Osaka and western Japan. Its high power output for the time also suited it to passenger work, and from the 1980s the class took over hauling the overnight Blue Train sleeper services between Tokyo and destinations in western Japan, giving it a role in both freight and prestige passenger transport.
