The Hyundai Pony was a small rear-wheel-drive car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai from 1975 until 1990, and it was the first mass-produced and exported car of South Korea. It was built as a two-door coupe utility, a three-door liftback, a four-door saloon and a five-door liftback or estate. Hyundai developed it with former British Leyland engineers led by George Turnbull, using Mitsubishi engines and transmissions, a platform from the Mitsubishi Lancer, some Ford Cortina parts and a hatchback body styled by Italdesign Giugiaro. It was presented as a coupe concept at the Turin Motor Show in October 1974 and introduced in December 1975, and its 1982 arrival in Britain made it the first South Korean car sold there.
