The Hyundai Kona is a subcompact crossover SUV built by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai. The first generation debuted in June 2017 and its production version was revealed later that year; the second generation was revealed in December 2022 and launched in 2023, developed first as a battery-electric model and then adapted for petrol and hybrid versions. The name comes from the western district of the island of Hawaii, and the car is sold as the Kauai in Portugal and as the Encino in China. The battery-electric Kona Electric reached South Korea in the first half of 2018 and was rolled out gradually afterwards. Depending on the market the Kona sits above the Venue or the Bayon and below the Tucson.
