Hyundai Elantra

Automobiles

The Hyundai Elantra is a series of compact cars built by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1990. In South Korea the name Avante is used from the second generation onward, while export markets keep Elantra; Australia and some European markets first sold it as the Lantra, a spelling chosen to avoid clashes with the Mitsubishi Magna Elante trim and the Lotus Elan, and settled on Elantra in 2001. The first generation, launched in October 1990, used a Mitsubishi-designed 1.6 litre straight-four and replaced the Stellar. Later generations added a station wagon and a liftback, and since its seventh generation the Elantra name has been retired in Australia, where the car is sold as the i30 Sedan.
