Honda made the CB500 Four from 1971 to 1978, a standard motorcycle with a transverse inline four engine of 498 cc, air cooled, with SOHC and 8 valves. It was introduced at the London Racing and Sporting Motorcycle Show in February 1972 and sold in the US market until 1973, replaced there by the CB550 in the 1974 model year, while continuing in the European market until 1978. It is styled like the CB750 but smaller and lighter, with a claimed 50 bhp output and a top speed of 115 mph, and has a single front hydraulic disc brake, a rear drum brake, an electric starter and a wet sump engine. This site lists a page for every model year in the span covered here, each focused on what changed in that year, grouped into one generation: the single generation (1971 to 1978 model years). Each year page links to its generation, to this model page, to the previous model year and to Honda.
