The Gulfstream G100, formerly the IAI Astra, is a twin-engine business jet designed and initially produced by Israel Aerospace Industries and later by Gulfstream Aerospace after it acquired Galaxy Aerospace in 2001. Derived from the earlier Model 1124 Westwind, its prototype made its maiden flight on 19 March 1984, certification followed in 1985 and the first deliveries began in 1986. Successive versions included the Astra SP, the winglet-equipped Astra SPX and the IAI Galaxy, and Gulfstream announced the larger G150 derivative in 2002. The G100 is powered by two Honeywell TFE731-40-R-200G turbofans and weighs about 6,214 kilograms empty. Military users flew modified examples as the C-38A Courier transport, and in 2012 an Eritrean Air Force Astra was stolen by two officers and flown to Saudi Arabia.
