Gravel Bike

A gravel bike is a bicycle built for riding on a mix of paved roads and unpaved surfaces such as gravel, dirt and forest roads, combining a drop-handlebar road bicycle layout with wider tire clearance, more relaxed frame geometry and often additional mounting points for racks and bags compared with a conventional road bicycle. Emerging as a distinct commercial category in the 2010s, particularly in North America, in response to riders seeking a single bicycle capable of covering long mixed-surface routes without the weight and rolling resistance of a full mountain bike, the gravel bike quickly grew into one of the fastest-growing segments of the bicycle market, supporting its own dedicated long-distance gravel racing events.
