GE U33B

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The GE U33B is a diesel-electric locomotive that GE offered between 1966 and 1970. It has a 16-cylinder engine and belongs to the GE Universal Series. It is 60 feet 2 inches long. Compared with the U30B it gave an additional 300 horsepower to the traction motors, and that increase required a larger rear radiator assembly. The resulting winged look, with wider rear radiators to support the higher output, became a trademark of GE locomotives and continues under the successor company Wabtec Freight. The locomotive was dubbed the U-Boat at the time it was released.
