GE U28B

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The GE U28B is a diesel-electric locomotive that replaced the GE U25B in early 1966. Its main change was a slightly uprated prime mover, with only 300 horsepower more than the U25B. Early units kept the same car body styling as the U25B, while later units had design features, such as a shortened nose, in common with later GE models. The U28B was short-lived: after only a year of production it was superseded by the U30B, which carried the line forward with a further increase in power.
