GE Evolution Series

Diesel and Electric Locomotives

The Evolution Series is the line of diesel freight locomotives that GE Transportation Systems, now owned by Wabtec, developed to meet the United States EPA Tier 2 emissions standards that took effect in 2005. It is the direct successor to the Dash 9 Series, and its first pre-production units were built in 2003. Customers can specify either alternating current or direct current traction motors, and every model is powered by the GE GEVO engine. Six models, seven counting rebuilds, were produced for the North American market, nearly all of them six-axle locomotives with a C-C wheel arrangement. Trains Magazine named the series one of the 10 locomotives that changed railroading, and it became one of the best-selling freight locomotive lines in United States history.
